Amazing Grace + Young Professionals RSVP
Good morning Immanuel. The redeeming work of Jesus is a wonder to behold!
“Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners. (Mark 2:17)”
Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese technique of repairing ceramics with lacquer and a metal powder, typically made from gold or silver. Meaning "joining with gold," this centuries-old practice is used to mend treasured objects, making their cracks beautiful and serving as a visual record of the object's history. In other words, kintsugi makes the brokenness the most beautiful part of the piece.
In that way, kintsugi is a parable of our testimony to God’s grace. What is a testimony if not a display of God's kintsugi on a soul? A testimony recounts how God's gift of eternal life, bestowed through His son Jesus, beautifies the cracks and broken fragments of a life. Our boast is the amazing grace of God in Christ Jesus. John Newton's memorable words articulate our testimony in song:
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see
At the end of the day, people can debate, doubt, deconstruct, and dismiss Christianity with intellectual arguments about cosmology, particularism, metaphysics, epistemology, and the problem of evil. However, it's much harder to dismiss the testimony of a person who was once lost and is now found. Every testimony proclaims, "I was sick, and Jesus healed me." The redeeming work of Jesus serves as the glue and the gold, making a broken life surrendered to the cross more beautiful than it could ever have been without experiencing the brokenness in the first place.
