Behold the Glory of Jesus! (+midweek updates)
The work of Jesus is precious and sufficient for needy people like us.
"After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high..." (Hebrews 1:4)
What generations of sacrifices could never accomplish, Jesus finished in a single offering. He made purification for sins—fully, finally, forever. Consider the glory of His work.
Glory in the humility of His work. Purification requires contact. So Jesus took on our sin, bore our judgment, and made us clean. The sinless One became sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God.
Glory in the effectiveness of His work. The cross was not merely symbolic—it was an achievement. Jesus did not attempt purification; He accomplished it. His final cry was not "I tried," but "It is finished!"
Glory in the finality of His work. Under the old covenant, priests never sat down—their work was never done. But when Jesus made purification for sins, He sat down. Nothing more is needed. Nothing more could be added.
Glory in the assurance of His work. Right now, the risen Christ reigns at the Father’s right hand. And as Spurgeon said, “Christ, the head of the body, is in heaven, and until you can drown the head of the body, you cannot drown the body.” If Christ is secure, we are secure. If Christ is alive, we will live.
What generations of priests could never accomplish—what rivers of blood from bulls and goats could never achieve—Jesus completed in a single offering. He made purification for sins. Not in part, but in full. Not as a symbol, but in reality. Not for a moment, but forever. So today, lift up your eyes. Lift up your heart. Behold the glory of Jesus!
