Blessed Be God! [+MIDWEEK UPDATES]
Good morning Immanuel. Whatever else might need to be said about God, we need to know that he is supremely blessable.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 1:3).
So many key truths come tumbling out of this one verse. Firstly, Paul says that God is to be blessed. This is not just the start of Paul’s sentence; it is the start of all theology. Everything we’re going to think about has its beginning here. All that is ours in Christ flows from this. The God of the Bible is a God who is to be blessed. This might seem unusual. We tend to think of blessing as coming from God rather than being directed to him. And in a moment Paul will indeed talk about just how God has blessed us. But prior to the blessing he bestows is the blessing he deserves.
Whatever else might need to be said about God, we need to know that he is supremely blessable.
