"Can we believe in angels?" - Trending Questions Tonight @ Immanuel
Good morning, Immanuel. Check out the Daily Pulse and catch up on all things Immanuel, including tonight's Trending Question Series!
“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in Spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
“Where is God?”
This question–one that is often asked honestly by people undergoing deep pain and suffering–is a good question. Maybe you are even asking this question today. Thankfully, the Bible also provides a good answer.
According to Psalm 34:18, God is near to the brokenhearted. God draws near to those who are too weak and sorrowful to draw near to him. God draws near to those at rock bottom–who have nothing left to give. The bigshots, the self-sufficient, the popular, and the proud are not who God hangs out with primarily.
Throughout the Bible's narrative, God chooses to associate with the nobodies of this world. God chooses Leah, not Rachel; David, not his older, much stronger brothers; Young Fishermen and Tax Collectors, not Roman imperial guards. The poor in spirit, the mourning, the merciful, the meek–to these people belongs the Kingdom of God.
So, Immanuel Family, are you brokenhearted? Crushed in Spirit? To you, God is saying today in all of your need, “That is not so bad. Why? Because I will draw near to you, and save you.” Perhaps now you are perfectly positioned to encounter the one who holds us in our most vulnerable and tender moments. Who binds up our wounds and does not break a bruised reed or quench a smoldering wick. It may be that you are perfectly positioned for the kind of salvation that God eagerly longs to provide to those who are brokenhearted and crushed in spirit.
The Lord be with you today!
