Consider Jesus
Good morning, Immanuel. Consider the humility, effectiveness, finality, and certainty of the work of Jesus.
"After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high…" (Hebrews 1:4).
By a single offering, He brought to completion what generations of animal sacrifice could never do. He made purification for sins. Consider four points of meditation about Jesus and His work in light of Hebrews 1:4:
Consider the humility of His work! It’s impossible to purify a thing without coming into contact with whatever defiles it. So it is with our sin. Jesus Himself would take on our sins and bear the judgment in His own body to purify us.
Consider the effectiveness of His work! The cross was not a demonstration of well-wishing sympathy but an actual accomplishment. Jesus Himself actually made purification for sins! When he laid his life, he could say, "It is finished" because his death actually satisfies divine justice.
Consider the finality of His work! Not only does Jesus's death satisfy divine justice now, but once and for all. So, after accomplishing purification, Jesus sat down! There is nothing more that we could add to what He has done. There is no greater purity than the purity Jesus brought freely through his blood.
Consider the certainty of His work! Right now, the risen Christ sits at the Father's right hand as the head of the church. In the words of CH Spurgeon, "Christ, the head of the body, is in heaven, and until you can drown the head of the body, you cannot drown the body, and if the head be in heaven, beyond the reach of harm, then every member of the body is alive and secure, and shall at last be in heaven too."
Consider and behold the glory of Jesus!
