Everlasting Father
Good morning Immanuel. As we look at Jesus, we see exactly what the Father is like.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
The “child given” in Isaiah 9 is, we eventually come to see, the eternal Son of the eternal Father. God the Son came to this earth to live among us. And as the perfect Son of the perfect Father, he reflects the Father’s qualities to us. We look at Jesus and see exactly what the Father is like. And these fatherly qualities, seen in Jesus, are eternal. In the Bible, the fatherhood of God is characterized by caring for the helpless and giving strength to the weak. We see this throughout the earthly ministry of Jesus, as he comes alongside the vulnerable and needy. We see it supremely through his death and resurrection as he fully provides for us, who have nothing to offer, and can do nothing to save ourselves. He is tender, attentive, and compassionate. These qualities in Jesus are everlasting. His care for us is not temporary. We don’t have his loving attention only for a season. His fatherly love is everlasting. He will never tire of you.
