Every Spiritual Blessing
Today, we can rest in the truth that, in Christ, every spiritual blessing is ours!
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 1:3).
In his opening doxology of Ephesians, Paul directs our eyes away from this world's fleeting and fragile blessings and toward the eternal riches that God has lavished on us in Christ.
These blessings are not just gifts from God; they are the gift of God Himself, given to us in Christ. Christ is the source, the measure, and the fullness of every spiritual blessing. When God gave us His Son, He gave us everything. What more could we ask for when we already have Him? In Christ, we are complete. We don’t need to search for something extra to fill the gaps in our lives. There’s no "extra" blessing hiding somewhere outside of Christ. We don’t need to add to what God has done in Him or look elsewhere to complete what He has begun. Every need we have, every longing of our hearts, finds its answer in Him. As a branch draws life from the vine, we draw life, strength, and every spiritual blessing from our union with Christ. And all of this is because Jesus bore the curse for sin that we deserved so that we might enjoy the blessing that he rightly deserves. Hallelujah, what a savior!
Today, we can stop striving for something else to complete us. Instead, we can rest in the truth that, in Christ, every blessing is ours—forever. May we live as people who are already blessed beyond measure, giving thanks to the God who has so richly blessed us.
Thank you for bringing back a memory of my Uncle Tony singing and teaching my little cousins (when I was 16) this song:
I'm Blessed and I know that I am because Jesus took control of my life!
I'm Blessed and I know that I am because he promised to me a new life!
I'm Blessed because He walks with me and he leads me wherever I go!
And if you happened to ask me how are you my friend, I'm Blessed, I'm Blessed, I'm Blessed!
Good news indeed!
