Faith That Weeps
Bring your questions, your fears, and your feelings to the Lord. He’s not put off by your struggle, but welcomes you in Christ!
“How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? (Psalm 13:1)”
These aren’t the words of someone who’s walked away from God. They’re the words of someone pressing in. David isn’t hiding his feelings. He’s disoriented. He feels forgotten. He’s protesting what feels like God’s silence.
But he isn’t walking away. He’s staying near. And that’s the sacred beauty of lament.
Lament is where pain meets prayer. It’s not the absence of faith. It’s the kind of faith that refuses to pretend. Faith that comes with tears, but still talks to God. That’s what David is doing here. He’s honest about his feelings, about the ache in his soul, about the silence he can’t explain.
Four times he cries, “How long?” And not one of those cries is dismissed by heaven. God doesn’t shame him for struggling. Instead, Psalm 13 shows us that these questions are not a violation of faith. They are evidence of it. Our emotions are real, but they are not final. They may feel like facts, but they must always be interpreted in light of God’s Word, not the other way around.
And the truth is, even when God feels absent, He has not forgotten. Even when His face seems hidden, His covenant love has not dimmed. He heard Israel’s groaning in Egypt. He remembered His promise. And He remembers you, too.
Bring your questions, your fears, and your feelings to the Lord. Ask what you need to ask. Your struggles don’t deter him. He welcomes you in Christ!
Wonderful Tony, thank you!
