“Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (Romans 5:2).
Haste thee on from grace to glory,
Armed by faith, and winged by prayer.
(from “Jesus I my Cross Have Taken”)
What gets you through the hardest days, or just the most dreary of days? What carries and empowers you? Whether or not you realize it, your trajectory as a Christian, is from grace to glory. And your means of making it is faith and prayer.
When you woke up this morning you awoke into grace. That is the context in which you live, move, and do all things great or mundane. The grace of God surrounds you. As Christians we are saved by grace. We live in the power of grace. We are filled up with grace and are to overflow with grace.
And we live all our days–both joyful and heartbreaking, happy or hard–by faith. But faith is not passive trust or mindless acceptance. It is a willful force, a fierce grip on Christ, a thoughtful consideration of truth. We are armed by faith against the lies of Satan, the winds of godless culture, and the apathy of our own sinful hearts.
And while faith is a thing we have and wield, it does not originate with us. Faith is a gift from God. (Ephesians 2:8-9) Left to our own devices, our faith wanes and shrivels. But we aren’t left to our own devices; we have a Heavenly Father who invites us to speak with him always and about everything so that our faith is refreshed and renewed and reinvigorated.
So we step into grace each day in confidence that God has given us all we need no matter what we face. His grace is sufficient to empower our faith and invite our prayers. And by His grace we will proceed to the glory of his presence.
"But faith is not passive trust or mindless acceptance. It is a willful force, a fierce grip on Christ, a thoughtful consideration of truth."
Well said!
This caused me to remember this song by Merchant Band
Grace and Glory
Oh God of the impossible
With You all things are possible
You spoke and creation was made
Your eyes are running to and fro
To show Yourself strong to those
Whose hearts You find are loyal to You
There is no one greater, than our God and Savior
God is my help, God is my source
God is my light, forevermore
He will give us grace and glory
He will give us grace and glory
He is the Lord, worthy of praise
His name is good and by it we're saved
He will give us grace and glory
He will give us grace and glory
Your hand for all who came to You
Your voice spoke words of comfort to
All men who saw Your marvelous light
And let Your glory shine, for all to see Your light
For all to know You are the Lord God gracious
This is who you are, bright and Morningstar
The spirit and the bride say come Lord Jesus
Let Your glory shine
Down on us, down on us
