Generational Faithfulness + This Sunday!
In every generation God is fulfilling His purpose for the sake of Christ.
“For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep…” (Acts 13:36).
David was not perfect. He sinned grievously. He failed publicly. And yet, God’s Word honors him with this high praise: he served the purpose of God in his own generation. What a remarkable summary of a life.
David’s kingdom was never just about David. His throne was not an end in itself. It was a divine strategy—an echo and a pointer, anticipating a greater King. From David’s line came Jesus, the true and eternal King, whose kingdom will never end. David served God’s purpose not because he was flawless, but because he was God’s man for that moment in redemptive history.
And here’s the encouragement for us: that same sovereign God still appoints and sends his people—imperfect though we are—to serve his purposes in our generation. You may not wear a crown or write psalms, but your life is no less part of His plan. You belong to the Lord. Your story has been caught up in His story. You are being used, right now, in ways you can’t fully see, for the sake of Christ’s name.
There is no throwaway generation. The gospel is on the move in this moment. Your faithfulness matters. Your courage matters. Your quiet trust and humble obedience may seem small, but in the hands of God, they are not insignificant. Heaven is watching. Hell is trembling. And Christ is building His Church.
So let’s stay low before the Lord. Let’s trust him with the outcomes. Just as God was working through David, He is working through you. May it be said of us one day that we served the purpose of God in our generation!
