Give Thanks to the Lord!
On this chilly morning, let's warm our hearts by reflecting on the steadfast love and faithfulness of God!
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south” (Psalm 107:1-3).
Not long ago, an old friend reached out after seeing my picture in a yearbook, and it brought back memories I hadn’t thought about in years. It’s funny how something as simple as a photo can bring the past rushing back. Similarly, Psalm 107 is like a yearbook of God’s redemption. It’s filled with stories of His faithfulness, meant to remind us of who He is and how He works.
The Psalm begins by declaring that God is faithful and worthy of praise, and the rest of the chapter recounts story after story where life seemed impossible, but God’s steadfast love brought deliverance. These stories remind us that the Lord has a perfect record of faithfulness, and His steadfast love never changes.
We’ve seen His goodness in the history of redemption, as He brought Israel out of bondage and sustained them through trials. We’ve seen it in our own lives, personally and individually. And we’ve seen it most profoundly in the person and work of Jesus, who redeemed us from sin and secured our future at the cross.
This past Sunday, as we gathered to dedicate our new building, we witnessed God adding another chapter to the yearbook of His faithfulness. Our hearts rejoiced, not just in the gift of a building, but in the beauty and glory of Jesus that we long to see displayed, rejoiced in, and spread across Nashville and far beyond. This building is not the center of the story—Christ himself is. Through this building, we pray that His name will be lifted high, that lives will be changed, and that His steadfast love will continue to be known and celebrated far and wide.
Let this be our song: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!” Let the Redeemed of the Lord say so!
