“He took the seven loaves and the fish, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples.” (Matthew 15:36)
The Son of God walked the earth with thanksgiving in His heart. Even the simple provision of bread and fish was sufficient to lift His eyes in gratitude to His heavenly Father. He who first blessed creation “very good” enjoyed creation best. And we who have received God’s lavish provision, the “bread of life” broken for us at the cross, have even more reason to give thanks. The gifts we now enjoy, the bread and the turkey, are for us a mere foretaste of the feast to come. Death no longer has the right to dampen our joys! Holiday pressure says to us, “You better get this perfect! It could be your last.” But God says, “Relax. Enjoy. The best is yet to come!”
