Giving Thanks

For the Christian, the most natural reflex in the world is thanksgiving because for God, the most natural reflex is loving.

“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south” (Psalm 107:1-3)

Psalm 107 opens with a joyful call to worship, reminding us that every human heart worships something. For the psalmist, there’s no contest: God alone is worthy of our praise.

We worship because of God’s goodness—His unchanging posture to do righteousness and extend kindness. Every good thing we experience calls us to thanksgiving. Beyond this, we praise Him for His steadfast love, a covenant loyalty that rescues and redeems even unfaithful people through Christ.

Thanksgiving, for the Christian, is natural because God’s most natural reflex is loving.

We’re thrilled to share a specific reason to give thanks: Immanuel is set to close on 4301 on December 10th! Let’s proclaim God’s faithfulness together.

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!
