God Keeps His Promises
In every season, God invites us to rest in the certainty of his promises.
"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful" (Hebrews 10:23).
Teaching the four-year-olds on Sundays often provides a wonderful opportunity to be reminded of beautiful, simple truths in the Bible. Even though meat, not milk, is for the mature in Christ, the simplicity of a statement doesn’t necessarily take the meat out of it. In fact, it can be the unnecessary complication of a statement that dilutes its quality.
One simple statement the four-year-olds learn is, “God keeps His promises.” Whether you are four, 40, or 80, this is an integral part of our faith. When we are broken, the Spirit breathes life into us through this truth.
When we remember that God keeps His promises, we are redirected from ourselves and from this world to a real hope. It is like when a fearful child is in the throes of a meltdown and a loving parent wraps them in their arms and says, “I’m here. I will keep you safe. You can trust me with what you are facing.” We want our children to trust our promises so they can find relief.
In Hebrews 10, God knows how His children will struggle with hope when weary—when life feels too heavy to bear. We are invited to find rest by looking humbly at what Jesus did instead of what we need to do. The curtain of sin that separated us from the presence of God was torn in two when Christ died for our sins, enabling us to draw near to God in total confidence because we are made pure.
Believer, God promises that He loves you (Eph. 5:2), He is working for your good (Jer. 29:11), and He is faithful (Deut. 7:9). “The confession of our hope” in Hebrews 10:23 is, to put it simply, that we need our Savior, Jesus. He is with us now and for eternity, giving us abiding hope in Him.
Great reminder. Thanks for sharing, Adrian!
Thank you so much for this devo this morning. Sometimes through the eyes and hearts of children we can more purely appreciate the promises of God as profoundly simple and simply profound… And, hold fast to the Hope we have in Him as the promise keeper.
Blessings,
