God Sees All of You & It Is Good News
Good morning, Immanuel. We can trust his steadfast love; Christ died for us even while we were still sinners.
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:12-13).
God discerns all the thoughts and intentions of our hearts. There is no hiding from him. In my flesh, this thought is quite scary and uncomfortable. I can’t hide my sin, lovelessness, and pride from the Sovereign God and Judge of the Universe. But when I remember the Gospel, it’s a glorious thought.
Why? Because the one to whom we must give an account is the very one who justified us at the cost of his Only Son’s life. He is the very one who declares us beloved Children, no more condemned through Christ Jesus. Why would we want to hide from him? His searching eye is not to condemn or destroy but to give strong support, restore, comfort, heal, sanctify, and teach us to find our delight in Him alone. When experiencing deep sorrow, the thought that God can see everything, even what I can’t fully express or comprehend, is a comfort. He can comfort us like no one else can. Who else but God would I trust to see so deeply in me?
Friends, let’s rejoice that we are naked and exposed before him. We can trust His Holiness; he will never sin against us. We can trust his steadfast love; Christ died for us even while we were still sinners. We can trust his power; he is Sovereign over all. We can trust his faithfulness; he will bring us to Glory. With David, we can confidently say:
“O Lord, you have searched me and known me! Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” - Psalm 139:1; 23-24, ESV.
