Imperishable Hope + This Sunday!
Good morning, Immanuel. Our inheritance is the sum total of all that Jesus has earned for us through his life, death, and resurrection.
“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:13).
How often do you think about the return of Jesus? Daily? Sometimes? Barely? The inspired authors of the Scriptures repeatedly encourage believers to wait expectantly for it, be ready for it, live in the light of it, and hope in it. So, how does Jesus’ return give us hope? What is this grace to be brought to us?
Jesus' resurrection is the resounding declaration of his victory, power, and everlasting dominion over our enemies: death, sin, and the devil. It is proof that he is God's Anointed One, that he bore the wrath of God for us and conquered once and for all. ‘He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame by triumphing over them’ (Colossians 2:15). Our inheritance is the sum total of all that Jesus has earned for us through his life, death, and resurrection. We have peace with God, justification, redemption, and the forgiveness of our sins. We are adopted as beloved Children of God.
When Jesus returns, he will renew all things. Through him, our mortal bodies will be resurrected and clothed with an immortal and glorious body, able to enjoy the fullness of our inheritance. Right now, we are incapable of beholding God in his full Glory. If you have ever tasted and seen that the Lord is good — whatever awe, worship, adoration, and love filled your heart at the hearing of God’s Word, or through a worship song — it is but a shadow of what will be when Jesus returns. Imagine that! Unhindered by sin, pain, sorrow, and fear, we will bask in the glory of God for all eternity, delighting in him, along with all those he redeemed throughout human history. And this hope is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, secured for us by God Himself. Think about these glorious things.
