Jesus Is Fully Committed
Jesus never makes a promise he cannot keep.
“Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25).
We would have every reason to despair if our eternal destiny depended on us. But thank God our hope and confidence are not in ourselves, but in Jesus, our great high priest.
Consider his power. The text says that he is able. Jesus has the power and ability to deliver on his promises. We live in a world of over-promising and under-delivering. But Jesus never makes a promise he cannot keep. He is able to do whatever he intends to do. And what exactly does he intend to do?
He is able to save to the uttermost. Simply put, Jesus doesn’t do half-jobs. He doesn’t get us started in the Christian life, only to leave the rest up to us. He finishes everything he begins. He is fully invested in us from start to finish.
All who draw near to God through faith in Jesus can rest in complete confidence. Our future is incredibly bright because Jesus is alive right now. We are not left to our own self-motivated grit or efforts at keeping hope alive; our hope is alive. Our hope defeated death. Our hope is presently seated at the Father’s right hand, and he always lives to make intercession for us.
Our confidence is Jesus: his indestructible life, love, and power.
