Knowing God + Invitation To Immanuel Women
Good morning Immanuel. We can rejoice in the God who made us and redeemed us!
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. (Psalm 19:1)”
Every day, the natural world around us bears witness to the power and glory of God. From a beautiful morning sunrise to a breathtaking view of a star-filled night sky, creation bears the fingerprints of the God who made it. In a sense, creation is a kind of book revealing the glory of God as our Creator. Truly, the world around us is a beautiful tapestry, displaying the wonder of God's creative genius, wisdom, and benevolence. Praise God for the book of nature!
But there is more to know of God than what He reveals in creation. God is happy to reveal His glory more fully through His Word. So, Psalm 19 has two parts. Verses 1-6 highlight God's glory revealed in creation, but verses 7-14 rejoice in the LORD's glory revealed through His Word.
So it says in verse 7, "The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul;"
Notice the switch? In verses 1-6, there is no mention of the personal name of God (LORD in our English Bible). But in verse 7, the Psalmist reveals the personal name and connects this personal name to the revelation of His Word (the Law of the LORD).
What this means for us is that God wants to be known personally, relationally, and specifically, not just generally. It is the LORD who made us and He reveals Himself to us personally, lovingly, and savingly through His Word.
Jesus is the Word who became flesh, “and he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. (Eph. 2:17)” As we come to Jesus through faith in the word of the gospel, we come alive to the glory of God and rejoice in the God who made us and redeemed us!
