Living & Active Word
Good morning, Immanuel. For whatever the heart-searching Word exposes in us, there is life-giving mercy in Christ.
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:12-13).
No one can search God’s Word without God’s Word searching their heart simultaneously. God’s Word is alive and active just as Christ is alive and active. So, the eyes of the Lord search our hearts to discern our thoughts and intentions within. ]He searches and knows us better than we know ourselves. No creature is hidden from his sight.
And this would be a dreadful thing if not for the mercy of Christ. The thought of being known and exposed leaves us with the fear of judgment. But for those who have sought refuge in Jesus, there is safety. For whatever the heart-searching Word exposes in us, there is the life-giving mercy of Christ! We are invited to bring our sins and our failings to Jesus, who bore them in His own body for our sake. He was pierced for us so that the two-edged piercing gaze of His Word would not be death to us but life!
“For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light” (Psalm 36:9).
