Merry Christmas: Good News of Great Joy!

Fear not - there is good news of great joy for all the people!

“And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people’” (Luke 2:10).

On November 28, 2022, Pastor Barnabas Piper preached a sermon titled, Jesus is With Us In Our Weariness. Here is an excerpt from that sermon:

Most news will be of some joy. It'd be pretty nice for some people. Some news will be of some interest to a lot of people. But no other news is of great joy to all the people. Only this news there has never been in the history of the world. Good news like this. This wasn't a mere announcement. It was not just information.

No, when we see good news being declared by the angel, this is literally the gospel of Jesus Christ. That's what the phrase good news means. Good news and gospel are the same. So what we see here is, is that the angel is saying, I bring you the gospel of great joy. That will be for all the. What gospel, what good news that unto you is born this day in the city of David, a savior who is Christ the Lord? That's the substance of the great joy for all people. That's what makes the news truly good A savior who is Christ the Lord.
