New In Christ
As we head into the new year, let’s live as the new creations we have become to the glory of God.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
As we stand on the brink of a new year, many of us are thinking about new habits and routines we’d like to establish. This is a wise practice. However, if I’m honest, it doesn’t take much for New Year’s resolutions to morph into low-grade guilt (think: “Do better, try harder”). This is why I’m encouraged by the reminder that the most defining thing about me as I step into the new year is not something I do (or will do, or have failed to do in 2024) but who I am in Christ. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
Christian, breathe that truth in! In Christ, you are a new creation. This is the wonderful reality the gospel brings us into. Through faith in the gospel, we are united to Christ, and we have become something entirely new. This new identity is not tied to our performance but to Jesus. His righteousness is ours. His life is ours. His victory over sin and death is ours. We are never working for acceptance, identity, or significance. In Christ, we have already been accepted, loved, and have an identity. We can relax and rest in His finished work.
This truth empowers us to face the new year with hope and frees us to take a risk for the sake of Christ. Brothers and sisters, you are new in Christ! As we head into the new year, let’s live as the new creations we have become to the glory of God.
GOOD NEWS!!!
