Other-Worldly Joy (+ Tonight at Immanuel)

Good morning, Immanuel. We have a hope that nothing in this world can take away.

“On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined” (Isaiah 25:6).

Underneath all other motivations, there are two reasons we throw massive parties and feast. In 1 Corinthians 15:32 the apostle Paul gives us the first reason; belief that this life is all we have. If there is no resurrection from the dead, then let's eat, drink, for tomorrow we die. It’s a last gasp effort of squeezing any enjoyment out of this life while we can. That’s sad. 

There is another reason we feast, though. We feast because of the unfathomable accomplishments of Christ, sin, death and sorrow will be forever eradicated! That’s worth throwing a party over! God himself is preparing for us a feast that will never end, a feast where the wine flows freely, a feast where the food is unspeakably good! So, everytime we feast in the spirit of thanksgiving, we’re tapping into the very heart of God. He’s ready to celebrate and he welcomes us in!

Immanuel, we have a hope that nothing in this world can take away. And we have it all by grace. Freely in Christ. Let’s rejoice today!
