"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory." (Col. 3:1-4).
Our best life is yet to come. We have no guarantee from Jesus that our present life will be free of troubles or trials. In fact, we have his guarantee that “in this world you will have trouble” (John 16:33). Even if we reach the end of our lives with relatively little trouble, our hope is not found in this world. Our best life is yet to come. Our hope is beyond this present evil age, where corruption and futility cannot spoil. It is a tragedy to live for the sugar rush of this present life when Christ is the fountain of all joy. There is nothing we could lose for the sake of Christ that is a waste.
If you’re anything like me, you need to hear constant reminders about this. I’ve often been helped by an old gospel song I grew up listening to. The song reminds us to hold onto God’s unchanging hand (God’s immutability) and to do so by building our hope on things eternal. Enjoy a bit of foot-stomping, hand-clapping gospel music!
God be praised!
