Our Bright Future + This Sunday at Immanuel!
Good morning Immanuel. Whatever intimacy we may or may not know in this life, the best is yet to come!
“Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
the Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready;
it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure” (Revelation 19:6-8).
Here is a picture of what our bright future with Jesus will be like. Ultimate reality is Jesus Christ gathering us to himself as a groom gathers his bride. And He will rejoice more in us than any groom has rejoiced in any bride since the world was made—and we in Him! But why does Jesus describe the future to us in this way? Why this preview of coming events? We might as well ask why lovers get engaged. We all know that it’s not just because wedding planning takes time. But because anticipation is part of the joy. Revelation 19:6-8 is in the Bible, so we will live now with more joy and expectancy than a woman preparing to walk down the aisle to a man she adores. Marriage itself is a poor shadow of the joyful union we will one day know with our Lord Jesus Christ. Dear Immanuel friends, whatever intimacy we may or may not know in this life, the best is yet to come!
