“And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no longer a slave, but a son…” (Galatians 4:6-7).
Jesus not only frees us from sin’s penalty and power; He brings us into His family. Before, we were outsiders—slaves with no permanent place. But Jesus, the true Son, opens the door, welcomes us in, and shares His inheritance. We are united to Christ, heirs together with him, forever secure in the Father’s love.
This adoption means that we never again need to fear eviction from God’s presence. We don’t have to hide who we really are or pretend we have it all together. As sons, we are fully known and deeply loved. We receive the Spirit, who continually assures us we belong to the Father. Our cries of “Abba! Father!” echo Jesus’ own intimacy with God.
This new status is not earned by anything we do. It is ours through Christ alone. Jesus lost. He, who was an insider, became an outsider so that we who are outsiders might become insiders. Now, we enjoy the confident freedom of beloved children. We have nothing to prove. We will never face rejection. Secure in Christ’s finished work, we find rest in the Father’s love. This is our freedom—complete, eternal, and joyfully ours in Jesus.
