Prayer & The Joy of God-Dependence
Good morning Immanuel. Our loving Father draws us out into the safety of God-dependence through perseverance in prayer.
“Yet because of his impudence, he will rise and give him whatever he needs.” (Luke 11:8)
Our heavenly Father loves to give us good gifts. So He makes the most astonishing promises about what we can expect from Him through prayer. But He does not always give His best gifts at once. Even the apostles must persist in prayer before the Spirit of God is first poured out on them. We are too prone to self-dependence. Therefore, our loving Father draws us out into the safety of God-dependence by withholding His blessing for a time. We rarely begin to pray with a true sense of our neediness. The blessing we think we want is too small, below the dignity of a child of God. Waiting widens our hearts for the blessing God will not pare down, the Holy Spirit.
Immanuel family, this promise is ours in Christ Jesus. Let’s give our God no rest until He pours out His Spirit on us in power!
