Surely, I Am Coming Soon + Midweek Updates!

Good morning Immanuel! The Bible begins and ends with a "surely."

"He who testifies to these things says, 'Surely, I am coming soon.' Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!" (Revelation 22:20)

The Bible begins and ends with a “surely.”

In Genesis 2, at the start of the Bible's story, we encounter these words: "…but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat, for on the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die."

The Lord gave His word that human autonomy from God would surely result in death. And we have witnessed that reality unfold ever since the fall of humanity. The wages of sin is surely death. But at the conclusion of the Bible's story, in Revelation 22, we find another sure word - "Surely, I am coming soon."

The wages of sin is surely death, but that is not the final word! The story culminates with a sure promise: He will come again for His people to restore us and usher us into the joy we deeply yearn for.

All of this is possible because of something Jesus did in the middle of history: Isaiah 53:4 says, "Surely, he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows." We can read Revelation 22:20 with joy because the one who surely bore the wages of sin for us is the one who will surely return for us. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
