“...the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel” (Hebrews 12:24).
After Cain killed his brother, God said, “The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground” (Genesis 4:10). It’s a haunting thought that Abel’s blood had a voice, and it cried out for justice, for reckoning, and for wrongs to be made right. And the cry was heard.
But here’s what Scripture tells us later: there is another voice—another blood—that speaks louder and better than Abel’s. The blood of Jesus. Hebrews 12:24 says it “speaks a better word.” Why? Because Jesus’s blood doesn’t just cry against sin—it cries for sinners. Abel’s blood rightly condemned Cain. Jesus’s blood gloriously saves Cains like us.
It’s one of the most astonishing truths in all the Bible: the very Son of God allowed his righteous blood to be spilled by sinners… for sinners. But instead of crying out for vengeance, His sinless blood cries out for mercy.
This is the heart of the gospel. In the cross of Christ, God’s justice and mercy meet. Jesus didn’t avoid the wrath we deserved—he absorbed it. He didn’t silence the cry for justice—he satisfied it. And because of that, we don’t have to live under the weight of condemnation anymore.
Some of us walk through life constantly wondering if we’re accepted by God—wondering if the verdict is still out. But the blood of Christ has already spoken, And His blood cries over our guilt with finality - “FORGIVEN! LOVED! ACCEPTED!” Hallelujiah!
