The Daily + Acts with Sam Allberry Tonight!
Good morning Immanuel. Let's start our morning with a word of encouragement and a mid-week update.
“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 5:10-11)
If you thought suffering was meaningless, empty, or even pointless, it’s all going somewhere. Our future is eternal glory, so in the context of eternity, Peter could say that our suffering is just a “little while.”
I understand it’s easy to be short-sighted when all is dark. Peter himself knows this reality all too well. His sufferings are on display for all to read, and his failings are apparent, yet Jesus sits by a charcoal fire and gives him hope. Life will be difficult, and suffering will happen in this present age. Soon that will end, but glory is eternal and never fades. From the vantage point of eternity, these present suffering are light and are preparing us for weighty glory! (2 Corinthians 4:17)
We have this great comfort from 1 Peter 5:10 that the God of all grace Himself will put His name on the line—
He will himself restore.
He will himself confirm.
He will himself strengthen.
He will himself establish you.
If you are in Christ, he will hold you, your suffering is overshadowed by eternity, his grace is sufficient, your brokenness will be restored, your doubting faith will be confirmed, your weakness will be strengthened, and your feet will be established on the only firm ground there is. Why? Because he is the God of all grace.
