The Daily + Tenth Generation Gathering Tonight
Good morning, Immanuel. Here is the Daily Pulse and a reminder about tonight's gathering.
“The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all he has made…” (Psalm 145:9).
Clyde Kilby, a well-respected Lewis and Tolkien scholar, once said, “One of the greatest tragedies of the fall is that we get tired of familiar glories.” If you are anything like me, you know how true these words are. However, if you are anything like my son, this sentiment may ring hollow. After all, children are notoriously good at seeing the sheer brilliance and beauty of the world around them.
Between family life, work, finances, friendships, suffering, and other daily pressures, we are naturally prone to approach life glazed over and dull to the evidence of God’s common grace that we encounter moment by moment.
This is precisely why we need this verse from Psalm 145. We need to be reminded moment by moment that the LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all he has made.
From coffee to bacon; from the laugh of a child to the embrace of a friend; all of it points us to the giver of all good things. Perhaps satan’s greatest strategy to divert our affections away from the glory of God in Christ is not some major, headline sin in our lives. Perhaps it is more simply, as Kilby says, the subtle temptation to grow weary of everyday, common evidence of God’s varied grace. This verse in Psalm 145 reveals that our ultimate problem may be that we do not take the bible seriously enough and thus fail to rejoice in the goodness of God’s creation.
Immanuel Family, by God’s grace, we can be a church of people who are alive to God's glory in everyday, ordinary reality.
CHURCH WIDE TENTH GENERATION GATHERING
Please join us tonight for a church-wide Tenth Generation Gathering from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm. This meeting will provide a significant update on our search for a long-term home in Nashville. Given the magnitude of this update, we’re asking that you please make every effort to attend. Classes for iKids will be available for babies through 4th grade. The gym will be open from 6 pm-6:30 pm and 7:30 pm - 8:15 pm for all students, but students from 7th to 12th grade are invited to the meeting. City groups for our 5th-6th graders will be held in the gym.
