The Glory of Jesus is the Point
Good morning, Immanuel. We can be no big deal and rejoice in following the One who is!
“And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk?” (Acts 3:12)
It’s a natural tendency to put myself (or some view of myself) at the center of everything. But the freedom and joy I want to experience sit on the other side of accepting that the glory of Jesus is the point of the story. We find our glory in that we are recipients of His fullness. This is the logic of joy.
Acts 3 is an excellent reminder of this. If any group of men could wow us with power and piety, it would have been the Apostles, yet they were set free by the logic of joy. Their qualifications didn’t invite God into their story; His grace pulled them into His story. So, the Apostles were set free to joyfully step out of the way so that others might see the glory of the One who gives strength to the weak, life to the dead, and hope to the hopeless!
Beloved, we don’t bring personal greatness or wisdom to the table. Praise God! We are lame men walking by the mercy of Jesus. Today, we can rejoice that His power is displayed through our weakness. We can be no big deal and rejoice in following the One who is!
Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! (Psalm 115:1)
Hallelujah!
