Our Hairs Are Numbered + This Sunday
Good morning, Immanuel. God did not create us and forget us. He sees and knows and sustains us today.
“Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Luke 12:7).
Being married and having two daughters, I find hair everywhere–the couch, the floor, even woven into my clothing after doing laundry. Finding hair isn’t so much finding a thing as living in an environment like summer humidity in Tennessee.
So when I read Luke 12:7, “Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered,” it has become amazing to me. I can’t even count the hairs on my shirts, but God knows every hair on our heads and everyone that has been shed.
And when Jesus tells us this, he’s doing more than lauding God’s counting ability. First, he is reminding us of God as Creator–the one who intentionally placed every hair follicle and decided what color and texture each hair would be. Second, he is reminding us of God’s intense care for us. The hairs are all numbered, right now. God did not create us and forget us. He sees and knows and sustains us today.
So when you find that hair on the bathroom floor or in your favorite sweater, thank God. It’s a reminder of his creative care.

Friday Prayer & Fasting
We invite you to a season of fasting and prayer as we seek a long-term home in Nashville. Though we seek a long-term home, our deepest desire in fasting and praying is for our joy in Jesus to grow deeper. Here’s how you can get in on this. Every Friday morning at Immanuel from 6-7 am, you are welcome to join us as we pray and fast together. Here are some verses to meditate on as we pray and fast:
Here are a few specific points we can pray for:
That every effort and every dollar invested in this campaign would be for the glory of God through us, his church.
That God would stir our hearts as a church to fervent and consistent prayer together for the gospel ministry of Immanuel and the needs of Immanuel. (James 5:16) And that we would pray big prayers and not limit God by the limits of our imaginations.
If you cannot join us, please feel free to pray and fast on your own or with others. Gather with friends each Friday for prayer (from your Community Group or Discipleship Group). Utilize the technology God has given us (Zoom, facetime, etc.) to connect with others for prayer. May the Lord strengthen us as we seek Him together!
