The Lord Who Rejoices + This Sunday
God delights in you, and you can’t change a thing about that. You can only receive it.
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).
I want to share a very simple and basic truth with you. But before I do, I want to emphasize that it’s a truth. It’s not an idea. It’s not a theory. It’s not even a hope. It’s a reality as true as the screen you’re reading this on.
Here it is.
If you’re in Christ, God delights in you.
He doesn’t delight in the you you wish you were. He doesn’t delight in the future version of you that finally shook the sin weighing you down. He delights in the you you are right now. He really loves the real you.
Our sensibilities aren’t comfortable with that, I know. Maybe you woke up today after a night you’re not proud of. Maybe you’re unsure what today holds, and you find weaknesses in yourself that are so profound you wonder how you’ll ever get where you want to go. There are so many things in this world standing against you. But there is One who stands for you, and if you’re held in his hand, no one can pluck you out.
So, face today with the full-bodied, boldly defiant truth that God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
God delights in you, and you can’t change a thing about that. You can only receive it.
