The Towering Love of God
The love of God is a strong tower into which we can run for shelter and protection.
“Praise the Lord, all you nations. Applaud him, all you foreigners. For his loyal love towers over us, and the Lord’s faithfulness endures. Praise the Lord” (Psalm 117 NET).
I’ve visited New York City many times, and each time I’m struck by the same urge: to walk around everywhere looking up. Of course, I would look very much like the annoying tourist if I did, so I refrain for the most part. But the pull is inexorable. The streets are like canyons between looming architectural wonders. It would be a shame not to look up periodically and marvel.
How much more of a shame would it be to never look up in wonder at the towering love of God? It does not loom over us and leave us in shadow; it is a strong tower into which we can run for shelter and protection. It is no mere architectural wonder; it is an irresistible force, a magnetic power, a reality of transformation, a world of goodness. It doesn’t merely provide skydeck views of a cityscape; it transports us into the very presence of God.
Look up, friends. Be a gawking tourist agog at His goodness today. The steadfast love of God towers over us, around us, and in us.
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
I wrote this last year, but it still rings true https://open.substack.com/pub/stephaniecalhoon/p/keeplookingup?r=1phogx&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false
