The Word Became Flesh + Advent at Immanuel!
Oh come, let us adore Him—Jesus, the Word made flesh, full of grace and truth.
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
Advent brings us to the heart of the greatest miracle: the Word became flesh. The eternal Word—who created all things—stepped into human history, clothed in sinless humanity, to dwell among us in lowly estate. As Charles Spurgeon said: “Infinite, and an infant. Eternal, and yet born of a woman. Almighty, and yet hanging on a woman’s breast. Supporting a universe, and yet needing to be carried in a mother’s arms. King of angels, and yet the reputed son of Joseph. Heir of all things, and yet the carpenter’s despised son.”
In Jesus, we see the God who longs to draw near to us in lowliness. His glory is not that he would be unapproachable, but that he would make himself touchable, knowable, and even piercable for our sake. In human flesh, Jesus lived the life we could not live, bore the judgment we deserved, and made a way for us to know God. In Him, we receive grace upon grace, blessing after blessing.
This Advent, let the wonder of the Word becoming flesh. The God who created the universe has come to dwell with us, to make His glory known, and to bring us into His family.
Oh come, let us adore Him—Jesus, the Word made flesh, full of grace and truth.
