Trust Not in Princes + Good News at Rock Bottom (tonight)
In God our King we have unwavering surety, confidence, and gladness.
“Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God. . .” (Psalm 146:3, 5).

These verses are a call to all Christians, all who fear the Lord. Whether your preferred political candidate resides in power or not, whether you are disillusioned with politics or hopeful for our country, whether you are tempted to the idolatry of hero worship or the hardness of bitter cynicism. And before you count yourself out, this is a call for the politically uninterested, uninformed, and apathetic. Whether or not we are tempted to place our hope in a political candidate or party, we are all tempted not to turn to God as our great help, our King, our sovereign and good Ruler. And when we don’t, here is what we miss:
Resting in the power of the unelected, eternal, omnipotent creator and sustainer of the universe. (v. 6)
Assurance that justice will reign and that victims and weak will be defended. (v. 7)
Restoration of the weak and blind, physically and especially spiritually. (v. 8)
The protection and watching over of the most vulnerable. (v. 9)
An eternal kingdom that will never falter or fade. (v. 10)
And finally, if we do not turn to God as our ultimate help we miss out on blessedness–that is happiness, fulfillment, peace. If we turn anywhere else with our hopes we will be let down. But in God our King we have unwavering surety, confidence, and gladness.
TONIGHT - Good News at Rock Bottom in Sadler Chapel!
Tonight we have the joy of celebrating the release of Good News at Rock Bottom, a new book from our founding pastor, Ray Ortlund. Born out of last year’s Wednesday night teaching, this book is a reminder that Jesus meets us in the depths of our need. Join us in Sadler at 6:30 PM as Ray shares more about the heart behind the book, followed by a time for Q&A. We hope you’ll come and be encouraged by the good news of Christ’s presence with us—even at rock bottom.
City Groups - Students are encouraged to join us tonight in the gym for City Groups! Doors open at 6 pm, Bible study starts at 6:45 pm, and will wrap up by 7:45 pm.
iKids Midweek - Wednesday night classes are open for ages two and up. We would love to have your kids join us for Bible study and scripture memorization tonight from 6:15-7:30 pm!
